Ceramic (tooth coloured) Braces
Ceramic or 'tooth coloured' braces are a more cosmetic version of the metal fixed brace. The individual brackets attached to each tooth are 'tooth coloured' and blend in with your teeth, making them discreet.
Fixed braces are the mainstay of orthodontic treatment as they are used for solving more complex problems where a large amount of tooth movement is required. They afford detailed and controlled tooth movement, unlike removable or aligner type appliances. They are used for most problems ranging from severely crooked/spaced teeth to teeth that stick out.
Treatment duration can last for as little as 6 months but complex cases can take about 2 years.
Invisalign (Clear Aligners) Braces
Invisalign treatment involves using a series of clear, thin 'gumshield type' braces to gradually straighten the teeth over a period of time. These are custom made for your teeth after a precise manufacturing process. There are no brackets or wires attached to the teeth.
The aligners are changed approximately every 2 weeks with each aligner applying a gentle pressure to gradually move teeth to their end position in a 'step – by – step' manner. The number of aligners required varies from case to case, as does the length of treatment.
The number of aligners and length of treatment is determined by the treatment plan devised by your orthodontist and inputting this plan through specialised computer software. The average course of treatment lasts from 9 to 24 months. The aligners can be removed for eating/drinking so diet restrictions are avoided.
Invisalign is not suitable for all cases but advances in the system are allowing treatment of an increasing number of problems of more severity.
A consultation with our Invisalign Certified Specialist Orthodontist at Edgbaston Dental Centre shall allow you to discover whether Invisalign is suitable for you to provide a decent result. If not, then rest assured you shall be informed of alternatives so that the end result is not compromised by using the wrong system.
Lingual (Invisible) Braces
These are the ultimate in invisible braces. Lingual braces are fixed to the back of the teeth instead of being attached to the front of the teeth. This allows them to be completely hidden from view. The Incognito lingual brace system used by Dr Saqib Siddiqui at Edgbaston Dental Centre is customised for each individual patient. Being attached to the back of the teeth means that other people shall be unaware that you are wearing braces. It is a reliable system used to deliver detailed and controlled tooth movement like fixed metal or tooth coloured braces that are placed on the front of the teeth. Lingual braces can take longer to get used to but most patients adapt to the brace in just a few weeks.
Because lingual braces are invisible from the front, they are ideal for adults or older teenagers who are concerned about the appearance of traditional fixed braces.
Metal Braces
These are 'fixed' to your teeth and cannot be removed by you. Metal braces or 'train tracks' adhere to the teeth and have a wire running through them.
